Getting your test results
Test results ordered by staff at the practice are always reviewed by a trained clinician. If your test results show that you need more tests or treatment, we will try to contact you.
Once a doctor has reviewed your test results and made a recommendation on next steps, you can get them:
- On the NHS App or NHS website
- Alternatively, you can phone us between 12.30pm and 1.30pm. Our reception team are able to pass on what the doctor has written about your results to guide your care further (for example, “discuss at a routine appointment”)
How long do results take?
This depends on what types of tests are ordered. More specialised tests can take longer than the suggested turn around times below. General guide:
- Routine blood tests – 3 days
- Urine, stool or swab sample – 3-5 days
- X-ray report – 3-5 days
- Fungal culture tests or nail clippings – 4 weeks
Questions about your results
If you want to talk to someone about your results, please complete a PATCHs request and we will contact you.
Results from tests ordered by consultants, hospital or other specialist services
It is the responsibility of the doctor ordering a test to check and follow-up the result. This means that specialist or hospital services will review results of tests they have ordered, and will contact you directly if they need to. In rare, specific circumstances, specialist services ask the GP to follow up tests they have ordered, they will write to the GP directly to confirm this.
